Blessed with an acute ear and an innate sense of rhythm 13 year old Quinn Bachand is rapidly establishing himself as a gifted guitar player and sought after accompanist. Quinn was honoured when Ashley MacIsaac asked him to be his ‘sideman’ at the 2009 Vancouver Celticfest and is thrilled to once again accompany the acclaimed fiddler at the 2009 Edmonton Folk Festival. Although Quinn plays a range of styles including gypsy-jazz, it is his talents in the world of Celtic music that are drawing the most attention. A focused and intense musician, Quinn has the unique ability to bring out the best in each tune. He continues to astonish fans with his diversity and skill, not just on guitar but also on fiddle and banjo.
Quinn has also had the privilege of accompanying such fiddle greats as BC’s Daniel Lapp, Chicago’s Irish Fiddle sensation Liz Carroll, Cape Breton’s Buddy McMaster, Troy MacGillivrary & Andrea Beaton, Canadian fiddle champions Mark Sullivan, Patti Lamoureux and Ivonne Hernandez. He has also opened and played with many jazz musicians including Robin Nolan, Duane Andrews, The Sultans of String, Marc Atkinson Trio, the Cold Cut Combo & more.
Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Quinn began his musical training through Suzuki violin lessons at the age of 5. He continues his classical violin studies, having completed the Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 8 Violin exam this year. Quinn also loves to play jazz guitar, focusing on his favourite style, Gypsy jazz; he receives regular coaching and mentoring from Victoria jazz guitarist Rob Cheramy.
